The fangtooth (Anoplogaster cornuta), is an uncommon deep-water predatory fish. It can be uniform dark brown to black and attains a maximum size of about 15 cm (SL). Its distribution is world-wide between mid-north and south latitudes and occupies a meso- to bathypelagic habitat. This fish has not been investigated for its age composition and growth characteristics. Because this fish is uncommon, I need help with collecting enough otoliths from as wide a size range as possible to attempt to investigate the age and growth of this fish. Therefore, I am asking for otoliths from fish that have not been preserved in Formalin, with length (SL), weight, sex, and any other collection information. Because these fish are unique, and the person collecting them may want to keep them, specimens can be kept intact by removing the otoliths from under the operculum. I would prefer to receive frozen specimens. I can send the intact specimen back if the collector would like to keep the fish. Personal observations (depth or range extensions, etc.) and obscure references on this unique fish would be greatly appreciated.
